Activists face the weekend with no food and water.

(NASHVILLE, July 24, 2005) Activists have for two weeks been unable to replenish their supply of food and water for those demonstrators staying the weekend outside Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen’s office. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Memphis Chapter and the clergy will be at the Capitol Building in Nashville on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 12:00 noon carrying food and beverages for the protestors outside of the Governor's office. 

“Food and water is not the issue,” said Christina Kretchik a protestor locked inside the capitol building this weekend, “it has been an unfortunate distraction that we have had to deal with. I am here to show solidarity with people I work with and friends, that are practically family, losing their TennCare coverage. It is an alarming and dangerous trend in this country if Tennessee gets away with cutting benefits they will get away with this elsewhere.”

Stan Davidson, also locked inside the building, said that the food supply was getting tight. It reminded him of the first weekend after activists began the sit-in on June 20. He said that there was a case of water left outside the door that the state police would not allow inside.

“The prime rib is great,” joked Michael Heinrich who has spent several weekends in the capitol. “What is here is mostly junk food, all the nutritional stuff has been eaten.”
