The Olmstead decision interpreted Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its implementing regulation, requiring States to administer their services, programs, and activities "in the most integrated setting appropriate to the needs of qualified individuals with disabilities."
Whether Phil Bredesen knows it or not, these are our basic civil rights. Allowing Tennessee to take about a hundred of us from our homes and "serve" us in a nursing home is discrimination. It is cheaper for Tennessee to stop building ramps, not provide interpreters, kick us out and hide us away.
What citizens will be next to find their civil rights an easy cut for Bredesen? Discrimination, ignorance and bigotry hurt us all.
