32 Dragonfly

Depending on what you like in a photo, the out of focus wing-tips may make you like this photo or dislike it. The focal plane is on the dragonflies eyes and it is so narrow as to soften the focus on the foreground wing-tip and the background wing-tip and tail. I like the narrow focus. I think it more closely represents our vision, while making the photograph more artistic than technical.

view of a dragonfly from aboveIn this photo, the stick the dragonfly is on is also in focus, but none of the background is and the background is not a single color. I like seeing the color change in the far wing of the dragonfly.

But mostly, the photo shows those eyes of the creature and the odd mechanics of its wings and legs. That is where the focus is. The color pattern of its body and you get a feeling of the size from the stick that the dragonfly is on.

I took this photo with my SONY 7r with the 70-200mm zoom.
