24 Longs Peak
Many people know of the majestic Pikes Peak in Colorado, but the grand peak of the Northern range of the Rocky Mountains is Longs Peak. It is unique, taller and much more remote than Pikes Peak in the south.
This photo is from Trail Ridge Road, the road over the Continental Divide.
The photo is of Longs Peak, but the contrast with the sky is the real highlight. I have made the foreground a soft focus to underscore the sharp horizon of the mountain and the sky. I know that many landscape photographers work for sharp focus in the photo, but in this example there is no mid-range to focus on.
I wrote about the fun brunch trip that Judy and I would make over Trail Ridge on Sunday mornings from Boulder. The real meaning of this photo is captured in my memory of that time and place. I wish I could better explain that feeling to you, but I have this photo that stands in for many of my feelings and memories.
This was made with my SONY R1.
