45 Memphis Fireworks
I am not sure of the story I wish to tell here. This was the fireworks show that Memphis put on July 4, 2019. I watched the show at the road to the Pyramid, which is the Bass Pro Shop in downtown Memphis.
The really groovy thing I recall about this was I used the wooden rack I built on top of my 1990 Honda Civic to watch the fireworks. I stained the rack and I had built a “bench” like structure over the rear window.
The real purpose of the bench was to hold my ladder, but it was so sturdy that I could sit or stand on it. I had built it specifically for the Komen Race for the Cure, but I never got to use it for that. I thought it would be perfect, because I knew of a place I could park along the race route and I could get a great angle on the runners.
Unfortunately, two Uber Eats drivers ran into each other in front of my home while I was at the weekly Memphis Camera Club meeting. One of the drivers smashed head-on into my parked Honda and bounced over the sidewalk onto the steps to my home. They tell me no one was hurt.
The Honda however was totaled. One front axle was bent under the front wheel by the curb. The cosmetic damage on the 30 year-old car was minimal but with over a quarter of a million miles, I just couldn’t justify keeping her. I let the rack go too.
On the trunk, I painted with chalkboard paint so you could write messages and draw on the back. I hated to see her go, but it was time.
This is an eight second exposure that I made with my SONY R1, f11, 14.3mm with ISO 200.
