Train Bridge

50 Train Bridge

Traveling is something I enjoy. When I rode my bike across the United States, I could spend time at any location. I mean that I always seem to be able to find something to occupy my mind. I am happy alone. I love to interact with people, I love my family and friends; I have great acquaintances in work, camera club and ADAPT, but I don't have to be around people.

I know other people that have made cross-continent bike trips that have a problem with loneliness, but I don't have that issue. I can recall times when I was alone and afraid, isolated and just very lonely, but I knew the solution to that issue.

The most scary was in the high-plains of Colorado when a thunderstorm hit. There were lighting strikes all around me, I was the highest thing in the area and knew I was a target. I could see many of the lightning strikes. They are unforgiving displays of power that reverberate through your body. The rain was not strong, but the thunder was powerful.

It seemed like I was just waiting to be struck. There were no cars out on the highway, I don’t know how I would ask for help if someone came by. I didn’t just lie down beside the road, which is a thought I had. My reasoning was that I would be less of a profile for the lightning. I couldn't do it, I just couldn't stop because I needed to feel that I could somehow end the fear, that I could get away from the danger.

Traveling in Tennessee I ran across this train bridge. I used water in the train tracks to reflect the tower in the distance. The bridge has graffiti above, but it is not readable and creates a kind-of pattern. The real highlight is the rough stone on either side of the tracks. I like the texture of the stone.

I made this on March 12, 2020, just before we closed our office during the pandemic. I had already written new procedures, but I really wanted to travel. I didn't interact with anyone outside of the business meeting I was in Jacksonville Tennessee for, but it was just before everyone began wearing a mask. I still have the promotional bottle of hand sanitizer they gave me at the meeting.

I used my free time to travel around and see things that I like. I think that is why I like to travel and why I like the photographs I take traveling. I wish I knew more about this bridge, but I feel that there are so many more things to see, I need to move on and continue my travels.
